Lingaa Movie Review

It has been four years since we last saw Thalaiva Rajinikanth on the silver screen. Now, he is back with a big budget flick “Lingaa” starring Anushka Shetty and Sonakshi Sinha as the female leads. There are a lot of expectations on the movie and let us now see how it is.

 Story:

Rajinikanth plays the role of a carefree, small time thief, Lingaa. Anushka plays the role of a Public TV reporter, who one day asks Lingaa to inaugurate an ancient temple, built by Lingeswaram, the grandfather of Lingaa. He rejects the proposal saying that he has no interest in knowing about or involving in the issues of his family people, who have left him in deep poverty. But unfortunately, he gets involved in a robbery scam and to escape the police, he lands himself in the village, agreeing to the proposal of Anushka.

He then comes to know of the heart wrenching story of his family, which brings a change in his attitude. What is that story??? Who is his grandfather??? Why was the temple closed for so many years??? Why was only he supposed to inaugurate it??? To find answers to all these questions, watch the big film on the bug screen.

Positive Points:

As like always, the film is a one man show. Rajini’s sheer screen presence steals the show right from the beginning of the film. He has excelled in each and every aspect carrying the entire film’s burden on his shoulders. He plays a Royal heir in the second half, where he is actually superb. He is at his best in the emotional scenes.

Sonakshi Sinha does not have much to do with the film, but she made a decent debut. She looks cute as a village girl and has done an excellent job. Anushka competes with Rajini in performance in the first half, and suits her role perfectly. The film has good production values. The dam construction and related scenes have been showcased very lavishly. The first half has good entertainment and other necessary commercial elements.

Negative Points:

The film is very long. The flashback episode takes forever to get completed with a stretched story and all unnecessary elements. At least 20 minute scenes could have been excluded from the film. Another big drawback is that the expected trademark Rajini dialogues or the thrills associated with him are completely missing in the film. Most of the second half is predictable, with not many twists and turns. This part is full of sentiment and emotions, entertainment is almost zero. The music of ARR is another drawback.

Verdict:

The film once again shows clearly that fans adore the screen presence of Rajini and it makes it all. The major assets of the film are the rocking performance of Rajini and good entertainment in the first half. But a long and unentertaining second half spoils all the fun. The people who watch the film entirely for Rajini and his style can go ahead, but others need to step in the theater with not many expectations.
